RESEARCH Dr. Zhao's research and teaching interests are in comparative politics and international relations, including foreign policymaking, political development, process of democratization, international relations theory, national security, and international political economy. His primary geographical focus is on China, Japan, and other parts of the Asia-Pacific area. Professor Zhao is author of Interpreting Chinese Foreign Policy (Oxford University Press, winner of the Best Academic Book Award by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Korea), and Japanese Policymaking (Oxford University Press/Praeger, selected as "Outstanding Academic Book" by Choice). He is co-editor of Managing the China Challenge: Global Perspectives(Routledge); Globalization and East Asia (Shiying Chubanshe); editor of Future Trends in East Asian International Relations (Frank Cass); and co-editor of Politics of Divided Nations: China, Korea, Germany and Vietnam (University of Maryland Law School). His books have been translated into Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Dr. Zhao is a founding member of The Global Forum of Chinese Political Scientists. He has also been active at the conferences of professional organizations such as the American Political Science Association (APSA) and the Association for Asian Studies (AAS), and been frequently invited to conduct lectures and seminars in the United States and Asian countries.
