Biography
Matthias M. Matthijs is assistant professor of international politics and international economic relations. He teaches economics, international economics, comparative political economy and world politics.
Matthijs' research specializes in the comparative political economy of economic ideas and institutions, focusing on advanced industrial countries. He wrote his doctoral dissertation on economic crises, ideas and economic policymaking in the United Kingdom post-1945, and is currently working on the revival of the Conservative Party in the UK, the rise and fall of neoliberal ideas in international political economy, and the impact of globalization on education systems and labor markets in western countries.
Professor Matthijs has taught economics at the University of Maryland at Baltimore County (UMBC), served as a consultant at the Foreign Investment Advisory Service (FIAS) of the World Bank, and was assistant adjunct professor of political economy at Johns Hopkins Universitys School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, D.C. He received fellowships from the Belgian American Educational Foundation (BAEF) and the King Baudoin Foundation.
