Biography
Shoon Murray is the program director and an associate professor in the field of U.S. Foreign Policy. Her teaching and research interests include American Foreign Policy, decision-making theory, the role of public opinion, the media, and interest groups in the making of foreign policy. She has published nearly a dozen articles and book chapters in such publications as International Studies Quarterly, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Public Opinion Quarterly, and International Interactions. Her book Anchors Against Change: American Opinion Leaders' Beliefs After the Cold War used original survey research to investigate the tenacity of "enemy images" and how much American leaders' attitudes changed in response to dramatic international events. Her most recent publications include "Private Polls and Presidential Policymaking" in the winter 2006 issue of Public Opinion Quarterly, and a book chapter entitled "Tough Talk, Public Predispositions, and Military Action: Reassessing the Rally-'Round-the-Flag-Phenomenon'" in Approaches, Levels and Methods of Analysis in International Politics (2006), edited by Harvey Starr.
