Professor Richardson is known as a pioneer in the use of computer modeling to study long-term global problems involving relationships between population, resources and environment. His co-authored books, Making it Happen: A Positive Guide to the Future (U.S. Association for the Club of Rome, 1984) and Ending Hunger: An Idea whose Time Has Come (Praeger, 1984, 1985), made this work, which was first initiated by the Club of Rome, available to non technical audiences. More recently his research and writing has focused on the prevention, management and resolution of political conflict - especially ethnic conflict - in developing nations. He frequently collaborates with South Asian Scholars and is presently completing books on democratization in South Asia and the political economy of ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka.
