IC Student Research Symposium Graduation Reception Congratulations to the 2008-09 ICSF BoardIn case you missed the announcement on the ICSF listserv, the 2008-09 ICSF Board has been chosen. Congratulations to Shanti Shoji, Katherine Davies, and Allison Cash Spiro. Please join us in extending them a warm welcome to the Student Forum and look for future announcements about their big plans for the next academic year.Recent IC EventsThe IC department had several successful events in the past month. The annual IMI Conference was a big success with attendees enjoying keynote addresses from Sherry Mueller, President of the National Council for International Visitors and Roger Rosenthal, Executive Director of the Migrant Legal Action Program. There was also a special viewing of "Fulbright: The Man, the Mission, and the Message," presented by Harriet Mayor Fulbright, widow of the late senator and President of the J. William and Harriet Fulbright Center. Breakout sessions addressed a range of topics, from "Interest-based Negotiations and the U.S. Air Force, to "Understanding New Markets: The South Asian Diaspora," and "Managing NGOs that Promote Intercultural Relations." Thanks to the IC students who gave up the last two days of spring break to attend and help make the conference run smoothly. Thanks, also, for the great turnout at the IC Alumni Panel in late February. Students heard from a panel of IC alumni that included Ian Larsen from the U.S. Institute of Peace, Maria Morukian from the National Multicultural Institute, Mariana Vega from the Telecommunications Management Group, and Rebecca Shakespeare from the International Broadcasting Bureau of Voice of America. Thanks to the alumni panel and to all those who attended. Be a Presenter at the IC Student Research SymposiumIn case you missed the subtle suggestion above to present your research at the IC Research Symposium, here is a direct appeal. We are still looking for students to give a simple 6 to 8 minute presentation on their SRP or thesis topic. This does not have to be anything too in-depth or complex, and you can even present your idea and initial thoughts if it isn't yet completed. The idea is just to showcase your general topic and how it contributes to the field of IC. Some type of Powerpoint or visual presentation is strongly encouraged. Send an e-mail to icsf@american.edu to let us know you're interested, but do it soon so we can get you in the final lineup for the April 15 event. |
