Tuition
The staff at the Peacebuilding & Development Institute is aware that
it is difficult for many of its international participants to raise funds
to attend the Summer Institute. Therefore, PDI has not raised tuition rates
in five years and makes every effort to equip its applicants with the tools
necessary to acquire funding.
Tuition:
$735 per course
Financial Aid
There are a limited number of need-based tuition scholarships available.
If a participant attends one course of the program, he or she may qualify
for a half-week tuition scholarship. If a participant attends two or more
courses, he or she may qualify for one full-week tuition scholarship. Please
note that PDI can only provide scholarships for tuition; we are unable to
assist with airfare, housing, or other additional costs. The scholarship
deadline is Friday, May 2nd, 2008.
Scholarship applications are reviewed through a panel committee and judged based on the applicant's professional qualifications and academic excellence. Priority considerations are given to early applicants.
To be eligible for a scholarship, an applicant must:
- Submit a complete scholarship application;
- Demonstrate financial need;
- Currently live or work in a conflict or transition country;
- Provide reasons why she/he qualifies for a scholarship; and
- Outline what she/he would do upon return home.
PDI will also provide advice and guidance on fundraising options through outside sources in an effort to ensure that all applicants have the opportunity to participate in the Summer Institute. If you have a specific need, please contact pcrinst@american.edu.
Sponsor a Peacebuilder
Many applicants for PDI's Summer Institute come from situations where covering
the cost of tuition can be a significant financial burden, yet their meet
all other qualifications for participation and are often in a prime position
to put the knowledge and skills gained through the Institute into practice.
Financially sponsoring a participant of the Summer Institute provides an
excellent opportunity to directly support the cause of peacebuilding on
