Tom Baltazar, Director of the Office of Military Affairs, USAID to Give Keynote
OVERVIEW
The training is a collaboration between International Peace Operations Associations (IPOA) and PDI.
IPOA and PDI's upcoming training session, “Humanitarian Conduct & Enhanced Operations” will take place from April 26-27. The two day course will ‘operationalize' the IPOA Code of Conduct and allow participants to internalize the ethical standards required of professional and responsible field operators and institutions active in conflict, post-conflict and disaster relief operations throughout the world. IPOA has attracted top speakers and top facilitators capable of training participants in the application of the IPOA Code of Conduct. Course speakers and leaders include keynote speaker Thomas Baltazar, Director of Office Military Affairs, USAID, and Steven Hansch , drafter of the standards of the International Committee of the Red Cross. Representative Christopher Shays (R-CT) has also been invited to attend the training as an honorary guest and a keynote speaker.
TRAINING WILL COVER:
· International Humanitarian Standards
· The IPOA Code of Conduct in the context of international humanitarian law, the Geneva Conventions, key UN treaties, industry standards and the extent to which these are evolving or are respected and understood by field actors
· Interaction between contractors, NGOs, UN, USAID, and the Red Cross Movement
· Cultural Sensitivity
· Operationalizing Industry Guidelines
