About Us

Swords & Ploughshares is American University's Journal of International Affairs. It is independently operated by graduate students at the School of International Service, a member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs. Established in 1992, the Journal is published biannually and features scholarly articles that reflect the rich diversity of opinion at the University. A rigorous and multifaceted peer-review process ensures that all articles adhere to the highest standards of academic writing prior to publication. The Journal's website includes international news feeds, book reviews and shorter articles that focus primarily on contemporary issues in international relations. The site also includes a number of interactive features aimed at building a greater academic community among all SIS graduate students. As a student-based organization, the Swords & Ploughshares staff will continue to provide their peers with the chance to get heard, get published, and get serious.
